Biography

Aakaash Patel is a second year basic physician trainee with aspirations of becoming a cardiologist. He graduated from The University of Auckland and completed the first years of his post-graduate training at Waikato Hospital in New Zealand, he now works for Northern Health in Melbourne. His areas of interest include electrophysiology and minimally invasive medical device technology.

Biography

I am currently based at the Westmead Applied Research Centre (WARC), part of the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). As a member of the translational biomedical engineering team at Westmead Hospital, I contribute to developing novel ablation techniques to improve treatments for heart rhythm disorders and high blood pressure. My current project, in collaboration with the University of Sydney, focuses on optimizing radiofrequency catheter ablation for more effective atrial fibrillation treatment.

Dr Katharine Bate is an adult cardiologist and clinician academic with an interest in heart rhythm disorders, arrhythmia management in special populations, and exercise as therapy for heart disease. Katharine completed both her physician and cardiology training at Royal North Shore Hospital, her PhD at the University of Sydney, and her first year of post-graduate subspecialty fellowship in electrophysiology at Liverpool hospital.

Edward started his cardiology advanced training in 2024 at the picturesque Gold Coast, having spent many of his foundational training years in southwest Sydney. Vivek is a current basic physician trainee, having worked at Liverpool Hospital while undertaking this research project. During her time training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, she collaborated with the Cardiology Department on research that closely aligns with her professional interests. Varanya is committed to pursuing advanced training in Cardiology, with a specific interest in non-interventional areas such as echocardiography and advanced cardiac imaging. Through her work, she aims to contribute to the field of Cardiology and improve patient outcomes in these areas.
