Improving global cardiac rehabilitation access: Potential solutions to a stubborn problem

Biography

Rod Taylor is Professor of Population Health Research, Co-Director of Centre for Excellence in Trials Collaboration (CETC), University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK and Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences – National Institute of Public Health and Department of Psychology, University of South Denmark. He has published over 550 peer-reviewed articles in the field of health services research and has an H-index of 128 and i10-index 445. Rod’s primary research interests include developing the evidence base to support global access to exercise-based interventions in people with cardiovascular disease and other long-term conditions that include the ongoing REACH-HFpEF, PERFORM, and ACROSS trials and directing the Cochrane Review Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre together with clinical trial methodology, including the use of surrogate outcomes and the handing of multiple endpoints. His post-graduate qualifications include PhD Clinical Physiology (Glasgow), MSc in Medical Statistics (London) and Postgrad Dip. Health Economics (Aberdeen).

Biography

Erina Korohina (Ngāti Porou) is a public health nutritionist and researcher at Manawaora. Her work focuses on Indigenous health, including Māori heart health, workforce development, and community-led research. She leads Te Ara Poutama – Living Well with Heart Disease and serves on the CSANZ Scientific Committee and Equity Working Group.

Nurse-led clinics: The NZ experience

Biography

Daman Kaur is a Cardiac Nurse Practitioner at Fallen Soldiers Hospital in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. She is an active member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ), contributing to various committees and working groups; and currently serving as Co-Chair of the National Heart Failure Working Group of New Zealand. Daman has made significant contributions in the field of community cardiology, particularly in developing innovative care delivery models aimed at improving access and equity. Her pioneering work in establishing rural and remote cardiology clinics earned her the inaugural Clinical Innovation Award from CSANZ. She also led the development of New Zealand’s first combined Heart Failure Rehabilitation Programme, as well as the country’s first Telehealth-accelerated HF up-titration pathway. This project was recognised as a finalist for the Equity Award at the NZ CSANZ Conference this year. Daman is deeply committed to advancing equitable access to cardiovascular care, with a strong focus on community-based services, model-of-care innovation, and health equity.
