Roxana Mehran, MD, is an internationally renowned interventional cardiologist, clinical research expert and trialist in the field of cardiovascular disease. She is amongst the most prolific researchers in the United States and is a globally-respected leader of an academic research center focused on designing and implementing randomized clinical trials, outcomes research projects, and high impact academic publications. She has served as principal investigator for numerous global studies, developed important practice guidelines for treating patients with cardiovascular disease. She has focused on personalized medicine and developed individual risk scores for bleeding and acute kidney injury, participates regularly in developing clinical guidelines, and has authored over 1,800 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Mehran currently serves as member and 2025-2026 Vice President on the Board of Trustees of The American College of Cardiology (ACC). She is a founder and Chief Scientific Officer of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF). She ranked 36th in the “Best Female Scientists in the World” and has been included for the past eight consecutive years in Clarivate Analytics: “Most Cited Researchers – Top 1%” as well as “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds”.

Dr Elizabeth Shaw is a Structural and Interventional Cardiologist who has a special interest in chest pain, women’s heart health and valvular heart disease.
She is the first female Cardiologist to be accredited to perform Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantations (TAVIs) in Australia. She is the Director of Cardiology at Sydney Adventist Hospital. She also works at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital and Northern Beaches Hospital.
Dr Shaw has passion for teaching and research and is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Sydney’s Medical School. Dr Shaw is on the steering committee for Australia and New Zealand Endovascular Therapies (ANZET) and is passionate about encouraging junior doctors to pursue their chosen field. She is a founding member of the Women in Interventional Cardiology of Australia and New Zealand group.
Dr Shaw has delivered multiple presentations at both national and international conferences in her research area of coronary artery disease, Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy as well as the treatment of aortic stenosis and other structural heart disorders.

Dr. Megan Coylewright is a structural interventional cardiologist whose clinical practice includes minimally invasive options to treat congestive heart failure (through valve repair and replacement, including TAVR and TEER) and prevent stroke (LAAO and PFO closure). She is a frequent lecturer on technical and procedural topics as well as the intersection of health policy and patient-centred shared decision-making and is known for her advocacy to broaden access to cardiovascular therapies in clinical trials for women and patients of colour. Dr. Coylewright serves leadership roles for device trials of aortic stenosis, left atrial appendage closure, and interatrial shunt therapies, among others. She is the co- principal investigator for one of the largest studies of heart teams. She completed her medical school, residency, and Master of Public Health training at Johns Hopkins and served as health disparities coordinator at the Baltimore City Public Health Department. Five years of cardiovascular training were spent at the Mayo Clinic in her home state of Minnesota.

Associate Professor Sonya Burgess is an Interventional Cardiologist, Consultant, and academic cardiologist. She is a SCAI Emerging Leader Fellowship Program recipient, with a PhD studying STEMI, incomplete revascularization, multi vessel disease, and multiple publications on women’s cardiovascular health and disparities, and the under-representation of women in cardiovascular workforces and research. She has over 100 peer reviewed publications including first author publications in NEJM, JACC, JAMA Cardiology and Circulation, the AHJ and IMJ, her research is cited in ESC 2023 guidelines. Dr Burgess is 1 of only 19 female interventional cardiologists in Australia and New Zealand, she chairs the CSANZ women in cardiology group.
