Biography

Carl is a PhD candidate researching rheumatic heart disease, acute rheumatic fever and group A streptococcus epidemiology in Queensland using linked state-wide administrative and health service data. Carl has a clinical background in hospital physiotherapy and is an academic lecturer at the School of Health and Rehabilitational Sciences, The University of Queensland. Carl is passionate about interigating usually-collected data from health services to identify areas for improvement towards better outcomes for people.

Professor Josh Francis is a paediatric infectious diseases specialist at Royal Darwin Hospital, and co-leads Menzies School of Health Research projects focused on partnering with communities to improve early detection and treatment of rheumatic heart disease in Timor-Leste and Northern Australia.

Biography

Alex is an Aboriginal clinician/researcher who has worked his entire career in Aboriginal health in the provision of public health services, chronic disease care, health care policy and research. His transdisciplinary program of research focuses on documenting the burden and contributors to health inequality in Indigenous Australians, with a primary focus on cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes and cancer. In 2022 he will took up a new position as Professor of Indigenous Genomics for Telethon Kids Institute and ANU.
