Prof Natasja de Groot
Professor in Cardiology-Electrophysiology
Erasmus MC
Atrial arrhythmias in congenital heart disease
9:00 AM - 9:15 AMBiography
Prof. Dr. Natasja de Groot, cardiologist-electrophysiologist is appointed at Erasmus University Medical Center and Delft University of Technology. She is chief of the research unit Translational Electrophysiology, Department of Cardiology. Her research focuses on unravelling the electrical mechanism of cardiac arrhythmias, particularly arrhythmias in (pediatric) patients with congenital heart disease and (post-operative) atrial fibrillation. For this purpose, she has developed unique signal recording and processing technologies. With insights obtained from these technologies, she develops, tests and implements novel diagnostic instruments and therapies. She is a Fellow of the EHRA, co-chair of EHRA 2025 and is involved in writing various international guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology, European Heart Rhythm Association and Heart Rhythm Society. In her clinical work, she focuses on ablation therapy of patients with congenital heart disease and atrial tachyarrhythmias.

Rajiv is the Clinical Lead for Electrophysiology and Pacing at Lyell McEwin Hospital within the North Adelaide Local Health Network. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide and leads a research team that focuses on the impact of atrial fibrillation (AF) on cognitive function and the integration of precision health into the management of AF.
Dr Benjamin King
Cardiologist / Electrophysiologist
Fiona Stanley Hospital
Which tools for VT ablation current and future
9:45 AM - 10:00 AMBiography
Ben King is a graduate of the University of Western Australia Medical School. He trained at Royal Perth and Fremantle Hospitals as well as London, UK. Ben completed subspecialty fellowship at the Toronto General Hospital, undertaking research, particularly in the area of ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation. He is currently the Clinical Lead of the Ventricular Tachycardia Service at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

He is the founder and chair of the Australian and New Zealand Cardiac Device Advisory and Complication Committee.
Dr Karen Phillips
Director
Brisbane AF Clinic
Chairperson
Biography
Dr Karen Phillips is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist in private practice in Brisbane. She is a Clinician and Researcher. She heads the Brisbane AF Clinic which is dedicated to the comprehensive management of atrial fibrillation. The clinic is based at Greenslopes Private Hospital, Brisbane – the largest private hospital in Australia.
She underwent specialised training at the Cleveland Clinic, America’s Number One rated Cardiac Hospital in 2006-2007.
She has emerged as an expert and one of the leaders of Atrial Fibrillation Interventional procedures in Australia, including performing Catheter Ablation for AF and implantation of Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Devices for stroke prevention. She has a strong publication record and has been a vocal patient advocate for new therapies for atrial fibrillation.
