Pericardial fat pad removal as a new strategy to treat Heart Failure in type 2 Diabetes.
12:25 PM - 12:30 PMBiography
Dr Miles De Blasio leads the Cardio-Metabolic Physiology (CMP) laboratory at Monash University and is focussed on learning more about the metabolic alterations that occur in the heart, and the influence of the surrounding pericardial fat in the setting of diabetes and obesity. He is an expert in the endocrine and metabolic basis of diabetes and obesity and the impact that these have on cardiac metabolism and function. He is also interested in understanding how diabetes and obesity impair cardioprotective adiponectin signalling which leads to lipotoxic cardiomyopathy.

Tim Van Puyvelde is a cardiologist from Belgium who is specialized in heart failure and CIED implantation and follow-up, currently doing a research fellowship in exercise and sport cardiology at the St. Vincent's Institute of Medical Research.
Miss Ada Lo
Clinical Measurement Advanced-Cardiology
Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital
Left Atrial strain is more sensitive and specific than Left Ventricular strain in differentiating Cardiac Amyloidosis from Pathological left Ventricular Hypertrophy
12:55 PM - 1:00 PMBiography
She is the lead echosonographer of the echo lab at the Cardiology Department of Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She is also qualified in general ultrasonography. She has 30 years of experience in echocardiography. She is heavily involved in education, training and research. She is responsible for training of student echosonograhers and advanced cardiology registrars. She acquired her Master degree in Medical Ultrasound in 2007. Currently, she is undertaking a PhD study in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Dr Seshika Ratwatte
Fellow
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
The Importance of Assessing and Correcting Hydration Status Prior to Right Heart Catheterization – A Pilot Study
1:00 PM - 1:05 PMBiography
Seshika is currently undertaking a PhD through the University of Sydney investigating the topic of 'Pulmonary Hypertension in Left Heart Disease'. Her research is supported by a National Heart Foundation PhD Scholarship. She is currently the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Fellow at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.
Dr Maria Selvadurai

Alfred Hospital
A Streamlined exercise right Heart Catheterisation protocol for the Diagnosis of Heart Failure with preserved Ejection Fraction
1:05 PM - 1:10 PMBiography
Dr Maria Selvadurai is a final year Basic Physician Trainee at Alfred Health. She intends to pursue advanced training in cardiology. Maria graduated from Monash University’s MD-PhD program in 2020. Her PhD examined the cellular effects of class II phosphatidylinositol-3-kinases in platelets, and the biological implications of targeting these pharmacologically as a novel anti-thrombotic strategy, supervised by A/Prof Justin Hamilton and Prof Harshal Nandurkar. She has also published research on soluble platelet agonists in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia under the supervision of A/Prof Vivien Chen. She is currently involved in research in the diagnosis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Dr Louise Segan
PhD Fellow

Prognostic impact of AF Diagnosis-to-Ablation Time on outcomes following Catheter ablation in AF and Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction
1:10 PM - 1:15 PMBiography
Dr Louise Segan is a Consultant Cardiologist and a PhD fellow in Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) at the Alfred Hospital and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.
Dr Segan is passionate about optimising clinical outcomes for patients with AF and heart failure, as she feels this population remains significantly underrepresented in clinical trials of catheter ablation and less likely referred for EP procedures. She hopes to bridge the gap between the fields of electrophysiology and heart failure to improve outcomes in this growing population. Her research also focuses on improving outcomes among the AF population through preventative efforts.
