Dr Paratz is an academic cardiologist from St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research. She completed her PhD in 2023 in the field of cardiac arrest and undertook a cardiac imaging fellowship in 2023. Her research interests include cardiac arrest, big data and aviation cardiology.

Bradley Pitman is an allied health professional and clinical researcher, with a keen interest in Heart Rhythm disorders which was the focus of his PhD completed at the University of Adelaide. Bradley currently works as a Cardiac Physiologist in South Australian hospitals and regularly visits Alice Springs hospital to support various cardiac services in Central Australia, including echocardiography and care of patients with cardiac implanted electronic devices.

Biography

Dr Anugrah Nair is the youngest cardiologist to join the program at Canberra Heart Rhythm. He is deeply dedicated to electrophysiology, and his passion for research has steered him towards this program. Notably, during his cardiology training in India, he was awarded the Heart Failure Association of India's Best Dissertation Award in 2022 for his outstanding research work. An astute clinician with exceptional empathy and a beaming smile, combined with a sharp intellect and quick wit, truly sets him apart. Dr. Nair's proficiency in accurate diagnosis and the development of effective treatment plans extends beyond the confines of the hospital. With a natural gift for public speaking and a fervour for teaching, he aims to impart his knowledge, particularly in electrophysiology, to aspiring students as he advances in his career as an electrophysiologist.

Dr Paolo D'Ambrosio is a cardiac electrophysiology fellow at The Royal Melbourne Hospital & St Vincent's Institute undertaking a PhD on arrhythmias in elite endurance athletes under the supervision of Prof Jonathan Kalman, Prof Andre La Gerche & Prof Peter Kistler. He completed cardiac advanced training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney before continuing as a cardiac electrophysiology fellow at RPA for 3 years. His research is funded by grants from the NHMRC, Heart Foundation & RACP.

Biography

Professor Weerasooriya is a UWA graduate (MBBS, BMedSci (hons) 1988-1994) who completed physician and cardiology advanced training at Royal Perth Hospital. Rukshen completed an overseas fellowship from 2001-2003 in Hopital Cardiologique du Haut Leveque in Bordeaux, France. He is based fulltime at Hollywood Private Hospital in Nedlands where he leads the cardiovascular craft group. Rukshen is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UWA and is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and mentorship. He also maintains a position as visiting scientist at the LIRYC Institute of advanced cardiac arrhythmia mapping in Bordeaux. Rukshen is involved in clinical research primarily relating to catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation. The UWA Weerasooriya Family Medical Scholarship was established in 2020 to encourage and support students in challenging circumstances to study medicine or biomedical sciences at UWA.
