AF ablation guidelines: Australia/NZ
3:30 PM - 3:50 PMBiography
Peter Kistler is the head of electrophysiology at the Alfred Hospital and head of clinical electrophysiology research at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne. Peter is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Melbourne and Monash Universities. He has made a substantial contribution to the field of atrial arrhythmias with 260 publications, 6467 citations and supervised 18 PhD students. He is Chair of the AF ablation guidelines for CSANZ and recipient of the 2020 RT Hall Prize. Peter is an invited speaker at the ESC, American Heart Association, ACC, Heart Rhythm Society in the USA and Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society.
Prof Prashanthan Sanders
Director, Cardiac Electrophysiology
University of Adelaide
ACC/AHA guidelines for AF ablation
3:50 PM - 4:10 PMBiography
Professor Sanders is a clinical academic based at the University of Adelaide and Royal Adelaide Hospital. He is the Director of the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders at the University of Adelaide; Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Royal Adelaide Hospital; and the Group Leader for Heart Rhythm Disorders at SAHMRI.
Prof Rukshen Weerasooriya
Cardiac Electrophysiologist
Heart Rhythm Clinic
ACC/AHA guidelines for anticoagulation and med management
4:10 PM - 4:25 PMBiography
Professor Weerasooriya is a UWA graduate (MBBS, BMedSci (hons) 1988-1994) who completed physician and cardiology advanced training at Royal Perth Hospital. Rukshen completed an overseas fellowship from 2001-2003 in Hopital Cardiologique du Haut Leveque in Bordeaux, France. He is based fulltime at Hollywood Private Hospital in Nedlands where he leads the cardiovascular craft group.
Rukshen is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UWA and is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and mentorship. He also maintains a position as visiting scientist at the LIRYC Institute of advanced cardiac arrhythmia mapping in Bordeaux.
Rukshen is involved in clinical research primarily relating to catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation.
The UWA Weerasooriya Family Medical Scholarship was established in 2020 to encourage and support students in challenging circumstances to study medicine or biomedical sciences at UWA.
Prof Pierre Jais
University of Bordeaux
EHRA/HRS AF ablation guidelines: Take home messages
4:25 PM - 4:40 PMBiography
Pierre Jaïs, MD a Professor at the Cardiology Hospital, Pessac, France, working with Michel Haïssaguerre in the Rhythmolgy & Cardiac Stimulation Department, co-manages the LIRYC Institute (Electrophysiology and Heart Modeling Institute) and the MUSIC EQUIPEX; both aim to improve knowledge and treatments of electrical dysfunctions of the heart with an extra focus on imaging for MUSIC. Dr. Jaïs is a regular contributor to national and international symposia and has written more than 400 articles, mainly on electrophysiology and RF catheter ablation, particularly focusing on atrial arrhythmias. He is currently working on catheter ablation for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias with special focus on advanced imaging integration and modeling to guide ablation procedures.
