Biography

Prof Ray is currently President of the European Atherosclerosis Society, Chair of the World Heart Federation Cholesterol Roadmap, National Lead for CVD NIHR Academic research Collaboration, Clinical Director for Research HDR UK Digital Innovation Hub DISCOVER Now, Director of ICTU-Global which is an academic ARO. He received his medical education (MB ChB, 1991) at the University of Birmingham Medical School, his MD (2004) at the University of Sheffield, a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and finally an MPhil in epidemiology (2007) from the University of Cambridge. His research involves lipids, diabetes and population health serving as global lead for trials and registries. He has >160,000 citations and since 2018 has been recognised by Clarivate Analytics as among the top 0.1% of authors in global medicine. In 2023 he was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, which is UK’s highest honour for clinician scientists.

Biography

Dr Bulamu is an early career researcher with a growing national and emerging international reputation in health economics and policy impact evaluation. Dr Bulamu is a senior research fellow in Health Economics with the College of Medicine and Public Health at Flinders University where she provides significant health economics support to projects related to non-communicable diseases including cardiovascular diseases and cancer surveillance, prevention, treatment, and survivorship. With a proven track record, Dr Bulamu has successfully secured over $4 million in research project funding both as a lead investigator and co-investigator.

Biography

Sonali is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the field of public health and implementation science at the University of Sydney’s Westmead Applied Research Centre. She is currently researching innovative approaches to engage the community in learning and responding to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. She has been involved in a mixed-methods inquiry to examine factors that influence layperson learning and attitudes to response in a cardiac arrest emergency.

Biography

I am a Bachelor of Medical Science (Hons) graduate and PhD candidate. My PhD explores the effect of lifestyle and non-traditional cardiovascular risk factors on cardiovascular disease in women. As a researcher, I endeavour to continue navigating around women’s health. My research interests are lifestyle and preventative research within cardiology.

Biography

Dr Charles Viska is a medical graduate completing his Master of Public Health at the University of Western Australia (UWA). In 2023-2024, Charlie completed a research dissertation at the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Research Centre within UWA's School of Population and Global Health. Charlie's research was a sub-study of the End RHD in Australia - Study of Epidemiology (ERASE) project, which aimed to contribute epidemiological data to support the Rheumatic Heart Disease Endgame Strategy. Charlie is lucky enough to currently be living on Yawuru country (Broome) in the beautiful Kimberley region of Western Australia. He works as a Public Health Registrar with the WA Country Health Service at the Kimberley Population Health Unit, where he contributes as part of a multidisciplinary team to the development, implementation and evaluation of public health programs that promote healthy communities throughout the Kimberley.

Prof Pam Taub

Biography

Pam R. Taub, MD, FACC, FASPC is a board-certified cardiologist and internationally recognized expert in cardiometabolic disease. She is the founding director of the Step Family Foundation Cardiac Rehabilitation and Wellness Center and Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego. Dr. Taub was responsible for all aspects of creating the center, which provides a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program for patients with established heart disease. Her clinical practice focuses on preventive cardiology, lipidology, as well as women's cardiovascular health. Her research focuses on assessing the impact of behavioral, technological, and pharmacological interventions on cardiometabolic disease. Dr. Taub's is a federally funded researcher with funding from: the National Institutes of Health (Principal Investigator on R01 grant), Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and American Heart Association. She is an experienced clinical trialist and serves on the executive committee for multiple international clinical trials focused on novel cardiovascular therapies. Dr. Taub is widely published (with over 100 publications) and has authored high impact publications in top peer-reviewed journals including Cell Metabolism and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology that have made an impact on clinical practice. Dr. Taub holds multiple leadership positions in professional societies, serving as a fellow and board member for the American Society of Preventive Cardiology. She is a fellow and member of the American College of Cardiology Prevention of CV Disease Section Leadership Council. She also serves the Vice-Chair of the American Heart Association Council Women in Cardiology Committee.
