Dr. Karan Rao is currently a structural research fellow at Royal North Shore Hospital. His career and research interest is in valvular heart disease, and particularly optimising TAVI for aortic stenosis. He is currently a PhD Candidate at the University of Sydney, working under the supervision of Professor Ravinay Bhindi, and is supported by NHMRC and Heart Research Australia Scholarships.

Dr Christian Said is an early career interventional cardiologist with a research interest in cardiogenic shock, cardiac mechanics, and temporary mechanical circulatory support. After undertaking physicians training at St Vincent’s hospital, Dr Said undertook advanced training at the Central Coast and Northern Sydney health districts. He completed his interventional fellowship at St Vincent’s hospital and is currently undertaking a translational PhD at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and the University of New South Wales. Dr Said continues to regularly manage acute heart attack and cardiogenic shock patients with clinical appointments at public hospitals within NSW and the ACT.

Dr Rasha Al-Lamee is an Interventional Cardiology Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a Reader at the National Heart and Lung Institute within Imperial College London. She is a British Heart Foundation intermediate clinical research fellow and clinical trialist with expertise in stable coronary artery disease, coronary intervention, invasive physiology and invasive intravascular imaging.
She leads a research group with a focus on clinical trials that impact the care of patients with cardiovascular disease. She believes in rigorous testing of clinical practice and the use of evidence-based medicine in all aspects of medical care.
She designed and led the only placebo-controlled trials of coronary angioplasty, ORBITA and ORBITA-2, published in The Lancet and The New England Journal of Medicine respectively. She is also the chief investigator of the ORBITA-STAR, ORBITA-COSMIC and ORBITA-FIRE trials and has over 130 peer-reviewed publications and a h-index of 36. She is actively involved in the development and recruitment for many multi-centre international clinical trials.
She is a deputy editor at EuroIntervention and an associate editor at the European Heart Journal. She is the NIHR CRN North West London Cardiovascular speciality lead and co-head of the cardiovascular theme of the Imperial Biomedical Research Centre. She is Deputy Director and Phase 1b lead of Medicine at Imperial College London.

Associate Professor Sarah Zaman is an Interventional Cardiologist at Westmead Hospital and an Academic at the University of Sydney. A/Prof Zaman leads a team of researchers at the Westmead Applied Research Centre, focused on spontaneous coronary artery dissection, coronary heart disease and health equity. She is a National Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow, a United States SCAI-ELM Fellow and a Lancet Commissioner on Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease. She serves on multiple guideline writing committees, for example, having written the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) global strategic framework for Acute Coronary Syndromes, and now serving as co-Chair for the ‘5th Universal Définition of Myocardial Infarction’.
