Biography

Professor Ritchie [FISHR, FCSANZ; FAHA] is Professor and Head of Drug Discovery Biology (Theme Leader) and Head of Heart Failure Pharmacology in the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), Monash University. Prof Ritchie is a cardiac pharmacologist internationally-recognised for her translational research focused on arresting the progression of heart failure. Her career spans discovery, preclinical & clinical research, enabled by long-term collaborations across Monash, the Victorian Heart Institute & the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute. Her research focuses on three major types of heart failure (diabetes-associated heart failure, heart failure after MI, and HFpEF), seeking to identify optimal treatments for these, and whether sex-specific differences are evident. The research achievements of Professor Ritchie to date include >150 publications in leading international journals (>8850 citations, H index 51, GS) and continuous peer-reviewed funding since 1999.

Dr Patel is a Consultant Cardiologist at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital, Western Australia. Dr Patel undertook a clinical research fellowship at The Heart Hospital, UCL where he obtained his MD (Res) for research on myocardial fibrosis in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He has maintained a clinical interest in managing patients with inherited heart muscle disease. Additional clinical interest include managing patients with advanced heart failure and implantation of cardiac devices. He continues to maintain research interest in the field of inherited heart muscle disease.

Faith Njue is a heart failure/heart transplant cardiologist with a special interest in adult congenital heart disease and cardio-obstetrics. She completed 2 years of fellowship in advanced heart failure/transplant followed by a fellowship in ACHD and cardio-obstetrics. She is the clinical lead for cardio-obstetrics at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
