Biography

Dr. Lakatta received his M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. in 1970. His postdoctoral training included an internship and residency in medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester School of Medicine, cardiology fellowships at Georgetown and Johns Hopkins University Hospitals, and basic research training at NIH and at the Department of Physiology, University College, London, England. He was section chief of the Cardiovascular Laboratory in the Clinical Physiology Branch, Intermural Research Program, National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health from 1976 to 1985, at which time he founded the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Science at the NIA/NIH. *Dr. Lakatta is presenting in his personal capacity.

Biography

Dr Michael Šeman is a cardiologist, clinician researcher and PhD candidate based at Alfred Health, Western Health, and Monash University. His research interests lie in cardiovascular engineering, with a specific focus on applying cardiovascular modeling and simulation techniques, alongside artificial intelligence, to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and risk assessment of individuals with valvular heart disease and heart failure.

Biography

Jaideep is a final year PhD student at Monash University, Australia under the supervision of Dr. Helena Qin, Dr. Kristy Jackson, Prof. Geoff Head, and Prof. Rebecca Ritchie. His PhD project focuses on targeting formyl peptide receptors as a novel approach to treat hypertension-induced cardiovascular and renal damage. Prior to the commencement of his PhD, he was working in the drug discovery program of eminent research organisations (Zydus Research Centre, Syngene International, Connexios Life Sciences) for 11 years. He completed his Master of Pharmacology (2009) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (2006) at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India. He has also successfully filed three patents and published 15 articles in international journals.

Biography

MBBS, Ph.D., FRACP, FACC, FESC, FAHA, FCSANZ, FAHMS Director of Victorian Heart Hospital, MonashHeart & ICU, Monash Health Director of Victorian Heart Institute, Monash University Professor of Cardiology, Monash University Professor Steve Nicholls is the inaugural Director of the Victorian Heart Institute and a Professor of Cardiology at Monash University. He is the inaugural Director of the Victorian Heart Hospital which opened in February 2023. Steve is a preventive cardiologist. His clinical interest is focused on identifying those at risk of heart disease earlier, and more effectively, and preventing catastrophic cardiovascular events from occurring. He is committed to solutions which improve equity across risk and management, focusing on women’s heart health and other under-served populations. His work spans the translational spectrum from the lab bench to the bedside, with a focus on understanding the factors that promote plaque formation, novel vascular imaging and leadership of large-scale clinical trials of new therapies designed to reduce the risk of heart disease. He is Chair of the Asia Pacific Cardiometabolic Consortium, President of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
