Biography

Marcus is a medical student who has a research interest in bioengineering and its cardiac applications. He took time off his medical degree to complete a PhD at the University of Auckland where he worked to improve the materials currently used for heart valve prostheses. He believes in a future where cardiac implants will have inherent capability for repair and regeneration.

Biography

Dr Quan Dang is a PhD Candiate at Westmead Applied Research Centre, University of Sydney, conducting research into spontaneous coronary artery dissection under the supervision of Assoc Prof Sarah Zaman and Prof James Chong. He is also an honorary research fellow at the department of cardiology, Westmead hospital, and a researcher-in-residence at the NSW's Agency for Clinical Innovation, reseaching acute coronary syndrome and heart failure. He receives a Reserch Centre Stipend Scholarship from the University of Sydney for his study, and has published multiple papers on spontaneous coronary artery dissection, and presented at CSANZ and ESC conferences in the past.

Biography

Dr Naomi Wattchow is a cardiology fellow with an interest in the biology of vulnerable plaque. She is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Adelaide, with her project through SAHMRI, the SA Health and Medical Research Institute, investigating novel biomarkers that contribute to coronary artery disease, focusing on ASGR1 and the glycome. She is the chair of the CSANZ fellows-in-training committee.

Completed Doctor of Medicine at Flinders University in 2018 before going on to Internship and Basic Physician Training at the Royal Adelaide and Queen Elizabeth hospitals. Currently undergoing second year Cardiology Advanced Training within the Central Adelaide Health Network. As part of this training have had multiple rotations to Alice Springs Hospital and developed a strong interest in atherosclerotic coronary artery disease and First Nations cardiovascular health.

Biography

Giuseppe Di Giovanni holds a Bachelor of Science (Forensic and Analytical Science - Honours) and has worked in Atherosclerosis Research for 9 years. Giuseppe's current role is the Imaging Research Manager of the Victorian Heart Institute Atherosclerosis Imaging Core Laboratory. He manages multiple clinical trials that utilise Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), Virtual Histology (VH), Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) & Computed Tomography (CT) medical imaging. This Core Laboratory aims to assist in developing new strategies to prevent, diagnose and treat atherosclerosis, the major cause of heart attacks and strokes, using a variety of medical imaging technologies to measure plaque burden and assess plaque composition in coronary arteries.

Improving adherence in Primary Prevention: Is it the Image of risk or the personalisation of the message that’s important?

Biography

Associate Professor Melinda Carrington is a Health Services Researcher and the named Fellow of the Filippo and Maria Casella Cardiology Centre of Excellence. After completing her PhD in 2007 in sleep research at The University of Melbourne, she undertook post-doctoral training in cardiovascular clinical trials at the Baker Institute where she is presently located with her team to head the Pre-Clinical Disease and Prevention Unit. The focus of her work is on clinical research in the community by identifying higher risk individuals to provide disease management programs. Using personalised medicine and novel risk prediction tools, digital technology and mHealth (mobile health) strategies are embedded within nurse assisted models of care to have a positive impact for the management of cardiovascular diseases. She has key collaborations with industry and internationally renowned researchers in cardiac rehabilitation, primary prevention, cardiovascular imaging and genomics.
