Biography

Dr Ayer is an academic paediatric cardiologist with a clinical interest in cardiac imaging, pulmonary hypertension, transition and adult congenital heart disease. His research interests relate to early life origins of cardiovascular disease, imaging, long term outcomes in congenital heart disease and exercise. He has a particular interest in Fontan physiology and the role of exercise and cardiac rehabilitation in patients with a Fontan circulation.

Rapid growth and ageing of the adult congenital heart disease population: an emerging era of geriatric congenital heart disease

Biography

Dr Melissa Lee is a clinician-researcher with a strong interest in adult congenital heart disease (ACHD). She received her Cardiology FRACP in 2023 and is currently the Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Imaging Fellow at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. Dr Lee completed her PhD in congenital heart disease in 2018 and currently holds several academic appointments including Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Medicine RMH at the University of Melbourne. She has been awarded a 5-year MRFF Investigator grant and the 2024 RACP/Foundation for High Blood Pressure Research Establishment Fellowship to continue her research in ACHD. Dr Lee was also awarded the 2020 Victorian Premier's Award for Health and Medical Research (Clinical Research).

Biography

Dr Edward Justo is a General Paediatric Advanced Trainee at Perth Children's Hospital with a specific interest in cardiology. HIs past research has examined outcomes in congenital heart disease and he has an ongoing interest in cardiovascular health and risk from infancy into adolescence and adulthood.

Biography

Jason Chami is medical student at the University of Sydney, and a Master of Philosophy candidate under the supervision of Prof David Celermajer. He graduated with a Bachelor of Advanced Science in 2019, and was a Provost's Scholar at Worcester College, Oxford, in 2020. He is now working with Professor Celermajer to develop a new bi-national registry of congenital heart disease in Australia and New Zealand.

Biography

Dr. Jacob Cao is a final year cardiology trainee at St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. His clinical exposure to congenital heart disease has led to a long-standing academic curiosity towards improving care of this unique population. His ongoing PhD is focused on evaluating early diagnostic and prognostic markers of Fontan-associated comorbidities. Following completion of advanced training, he hopes to pursue congenital heart disease further in a clinical and research arena.

Survival after Surgery for Isolated Rheumatic Aortic Disease in Under 18s

Biography

Hilary is a Paediatric Cardiology trainee and has just moved to Brisbane to the Queensland Children's Hospital after working with the team at Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland for the past 2.5 years. She has a strong interest in Rheumatic Heart Disease and completed this research whilst in Auckland. She hopes to continue to undertake research in this area after completing training with the hopes of improving evidence based care for this group of patients.

Biography

Deane Yim is a Paediatric Imaging and Fetal Cardiologist at Perth Children’s Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital. She is the clinical lead of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and cardiology research lead at Perth Children's Hospital. Deane holds a Senior Lecturer appointment at the University of Western Australia. Her subspecialty interests are non-invasive cardiac imaging, including advanced transthoracic echocardiography, fetal and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.
