Biography

Melanie Lavender graduated at University of Bristol UK in 2000 and completed specialist respiratory and general medical training in UK in 2010. Since 2011 Melanie has been the lead physician for the WA Pulmonary Hypertension service now located at Fiona Stanley Hospital, within the Advanced Lung Disease Unit. Melanie's other specialty practice includes lung transplantation, PAH clinical trials and management advanced lung diseases.

Biography

Prof McGiffin has now retired from cardiothoracic surgical practice which was dominated by thoracic transplantation, mechanical circulatory support and pulmonary endarterectomy. However, he continues to be active in research involving donor heart preservation with machine perfusion, developing an infection resistant driveline for ventricular assist devices and modelling of CTEPH physiology.

Biography

Professor David Kaye is Director of the Department of Cardiology at the Alfred Hospital and a senior member of the Advanced Heart Failure Service. He also leads the Cardiology Research Program at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. Professor Kaye’s studies have centred around the progressive nature of heart failure and has identified a range of its fundamental contributing mechanisms. To this end his research work has been directed towards the development of improved approaches for the care of heart failure patients.

Prof Liza Thomas

Biography

Professor Liza Thomas is a Conjoint Professor at Sydney University, Adjunct Professor at University of New South Wales and is the Clinical Lead for non-invasive cardiac imaging at Westmead Hospital. Her research focuses particularly on echocardiographic evaluation of atrial dynamics and function, chemotherapy related cardiomyopathy, amyloid and Fabry cardiomyopathies and cardiac involvement in chronic kidney disease. Liza is actively involved in teaching and supervises PhD and master's students. Liza has been and invited speaker at national and international meetings and has published over 200 peer reviewed papers.
