Cultural safety requires the ongoing development of critical consciousness, identifying and addressing biases and power imbalances, a commitment to transformative change and ensuring that safe practice is determined by those receiving care. This is an interactive session that will use case studies and real-life scenarios to demonstrate culturally safe practice. We will explore the dimensions of cultural safety including; implicit bias, power dynamics, privilege, and anti-racism, and also discuss measures for gathering and acting on feedback from patients, whānau and communities. The session aims to equip haematologists and other health professionals with practical tools that foster culturally safe clinical environments and identify opportunities for transformative change.
