Dr. Justin Kreuter serves as the Medical Director of the Transfusion Laboratory, Associate Medical Director of the Transplant Compatibility Laboratory, and Vice Chair of Transfusion Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His clinical interests focus on patient blood management, applying principles of coagulation into clinical practice, and supporting patients who are refractory to platelet transfusion. Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Kreuter’s passion is medical education. He has completed advanced training in medical education through the Harvard Macy Institute and interprofessional education at the University of Toronto. He serves as a faculty facilitator for Harvard Macy Institute’s course on Transforming Your Teaching Using Technology. He previously served on the Resident In-Service Examination committee, helping shape national pathology and transfusion medicine exams. In 2026, he will begin serving on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Pathology Review Committee.

Jo Burton is a registered nurse working remotely for Auckland City Hospital. Jo works closely with the ANZKX team at Royal Melbourne Hospital to facilitate trans-Tasman kidney exchanges.

Lizzie Laven is a RMLS working in the Dunedin Blood Bank. She has recently completed her Master of Medical Laboratory Science following on from her Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (Hons). Her Masters thesis was entitled Secretor status and the risk of haemolysis following minor ABO incompatible transfusion, and was completed under the supervision of Drs Holly Perry and Krishna Badami.

Aaron Hess is a Transfusion Medicine Specialist with the New Zealand Blood Service in Christchurch. He is a blood banker and transplant anesthesiologist. His research focuses on physiologic red blood cell transfusion triggers and the epidemiology of massive transfusion.

Susan Ireland is a health administrator with a medical science background. Her current focus is improving system sustainability and the stewardship of donated human biological materials. Susan represents South Australia on national committees advising on blood and blood products, organ and tissue donation and stem cell sectors.
