Biography

Dr Arun Ilancheran holds Specialist Fellowships from the College of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, a Diploma in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine and a Bachelor of Medicine-Bachelor of Surgery with Honours. He currently works at multiple metropolitan hospitals which include Alfred Health, St. Vincent’s Public Melbourne and Eastern Health. His work entails delivering high-quality care to our sickest and most vulnerable public hospital patients who need emergency or intensive care. His expertise enables him to look after patients who are injured in major trauma, burns, transplant recipients, infectious diseases as well as those requiring very specialised quaternary care. He is an adjunct lecturer at Monash and Notre Dame Universities and is dedicated to improving the education of medical students at public hospitals. He also teaches on a wide variety of specialist courses that train other doctors in specific skills such as life-saving procedures, advanced life support and ultrasound.

Biography

Prof Nicola Mutch is a Personal Chair University of Aberdeen, Scotland. She carried out her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Aberdeen specialising in haemostasis, thrombosis and vascular biology. She subsequently moved to the University of Illinois for a post-doctoral position for 4 years before returning to her first independent position in Cardiovascular Biology at The University of Leeds. She was awarded a personal fellowship from the British Heart Foundation and returned to the University of Aberdeen in 2012 to pursue her work and build an independent group. Prof Mutch research interests focus on the physiological and pathological mechanisms underpinning haemostasis, thrombosis and vascular biology by employing a translational approach from basic protein biochemistry to modelling thrombosis and patient-based studies. The overarching goal is to understand the mechanisms and drivers underpinning these cardiovascular and immunothrombotic diseases to develop and define more appropriate and personalised treatment strategies.

Dr. Mitra is the head of the Emergency Research Unit at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He is also a member of the medical advisory committee for the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.
