Biography

Peter Brukner is a specialist sports and exercise physician and Professor of Sports Medicine at LaTrobe University. Peter is the co-founder of the public health campaign SugarByHalf and is committed to the challenge of improving the nation’s health with improved diet and increased physical activity. His best selling book A Fat Lot of Good was published in 2018. Peter is also the Founder and Chair of Defeat Diabetes, an app- and web-based program, aimed at improving diabetes control through diet. His latest book The Diabetes Plan was published in 2023. Peter is the 2025 VIC Senior Australian of the Year.

Biography

Before completing her medical degree, Shannon completed a science degree majoring in human physiology. She also completed an honours thesis in diabetes management comparing conventional medical therapies (insulin and metformin) with two Ayurvedic herbs on GLUT4 translocation. Shannon been consulting at Tweed Health for Everyone as a general practitioner since 2013. Shannon has completed additional training with the Nutritional Network and uses therapeutic carbohydrate restriction to treat chronic diseases. She combines other complementary therapies with conventional medical practices to support a holistic approach to healthcare. When not at work or busy learning about integrative healthcare, Shannon spends her time with her husband and two children exploring the beautiful north coast of NSW and meeting with friends and family.

Biography

Hospital trained registered nurse. Completing my Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and management in 1999- 2000 followed by credentialling with the ADEA in 2000.Workied as a CDE in the private hospital setting and volunteered at Diabetes Kids Camp during this period then commenced Private Practice in November 2004 but continued to also work in the hospital system as well 2023.Since then working 3 days per week in private practice working primarily with Type 1 and Type 2 and pre-diabetes. Approximately 40% of my patients have type 1 or LADA.
