Biography

Dr Ashley Ng is a diabetes advocate, a diabetes researcher and accredited practising dietitian. Her lived experience has led to her passion in consumer and community involvement in research and healthcare improvement. Ashley's areas of interest in research include supporting young adults with diabetes during life transitions, digital health solutions in diabetes care and community engagement, including peer support.

Biography

Dr Giuliana Murfet, a Bullwinkel Scholar, is a Nurse Practitioner Senior Lecturer at the University of Tasmania and a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the UTS. She also works clinically as a Nurse Practitioner in diabetes and bariatric care. Her research spans co-design and evaluation of rural and regional models of care for diabetes in pregnancy, paediatric diabetes, obesity management in type 2 diabetes, and digital inpatient care. Her current research focuses on strengthening healthcare workforce capability for future diabetes care needs, including the development of a national capability framework to inform health professional education in diabetes. Dr Murfet is a Fellow and past President of the ADEA and a CDE. She chairs the Medical Educational and Scientific Advisory Council, and Health Professional Advisory Council for Diabetes Australia, and is a Steering Committee member of the Living Evidence for Diabetes Consortium

Biography

Leanne Mullan is a Senior Lecturer at the Australian Catholic University (ACU). In this role she has oversight of course coordination and School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine governance, as well as responsibility for the national cohort of ACU nursing students studying chronic disease management. In addition to Leanne's academic role Leanne works clinically as a credentialled diabetes educator within a multidisciplinary primary care general practice. Leanne also provides research assistance to Deakin University as a casual Research Fellow. Leanne's current research interests are in innovative higher-education teaching methods, diabetes and breast cancer and the guided self-determination (GSD) program. Prior to Leanne's role at ACU, she worked for several years in program and project management roles within the Western Queensland Primary Health Network, Australian Diabetes Society and National Association of Diabetes Centres. She has been heavily involved in diabetes program/model of care development, diabetes service accreditation, generalist health professional diabetes education and the coordination of the expert review of NDSS resources and educational materials.

Biography

Dr Rebecca Munt is a registered nurse with a PhD that explored the self-management experiences of people living with type 1 diabetes while in hospital. Rebecca currently is employed as a Senior Research Fellow in SAHMRI and is leading the implementation and evaluation of the Aboriginal Diabetes Workforce Training study. Rebecca has undertaken a number of research projects in the area of diabetes and disseminated the research findings at local, national and international conferences and in peer reviewed publications. She is a member on several committees with the peak national diabetes bodies in Australia.

Biography

Dr Kirstine Bell is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and Senior Research Fellow at the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney. She leads the Australian Type 1 Diabetes National Screening Pilot (Breakthrough T1D Australia & International, 2020-25), a national feasibility, acceptability and cost-effectiveness program to determine the optimal method for a routine, publicly-funded national screening program for type 1 diabetes for all Australian children. Her research is cited in international guidelines around the world and she co-first authored the 2022 ISPAD Clinical Practice Consensus Guideline: Stages of type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents.
