Dr. Joanna Biegańska-Banaś, Assistant Professor at Jagiellonian University Medical College, clinical psychologist, and specialist in clinical psychology, focuses on health psychology, neuropsychology, and metabolic disorders. A visiting scholar at SUNY Buffalo and the University of Southern California, she researches PTSD, chronic pain, and cognition, publishing extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

Israel is a PhD candidate at Deakin University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery. His research focuses on community organisations, diabetes self-management and social support for individuals with type 2 diabetes. He has published several articles in the field and is currently developing a framework to enhance social support and self-management.

Originally from upstate New York, Camille Hemlock got her MD at the University of Buffalo Medical School in Buffalo, New York. She is Board Certified in Psychiatry, Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine. She has been working at Timaru Hospital in Timaru New Zealand for the past fifteen years.

Sumathy is working the program manager for Western Sydney Diabetes, Integrated and Community Health WSLHD. She is pursuing a part-time PhD with the Sydney Health Literacy Lab, The University of Sydney, focusing on the effectiveness of virtual care in type 2 diabetes management to support people-centred care.

Liz is a credentialed diabetes nurse educator and the clinical trials coordinator team leader of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Department at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. She has been working in diabetes for over 15 years.

Dr Goh is a first year General Medicine Advanced Trainee in Royal Perth Hospital. She has a strong passion in Diabetes management and Endocrinology. Outside of clinical medicine, her enthusiasm revolves around teaching, quality improvement, advocacy and research.

Leon is a passionate T1D advocate and an active researcher focusing on the application of technology and motivational models to diabetes management. He is an effective communicator, both in the written and spoken word, presenting at both local and international conferences.

Dom is a Diabetes Educator that completed the Diabetes Education postgraduate in 2024 and now working in a role as a Diabetes Educator working towards credentialling. Previously worked as an ANUM/Rehab Assessor/Diabetes Resource Nurse in Rehabilitation since 2005.

Chia-Jong Chang, MN, is a diabetes educator with extensive experience. Yau-Jiunn Lee, MD, is the Honorary President of the Taiwan Association of Clinical Diabetes Care. Hui-Chun Hsu, PhD, is a nursing scholar with extensive experience in educator training and diabetes research.

Deepa is a Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultant at Western Health, specializing in diabetes care across all age groups, including paediatrics, adults and pregnancy. She has also worked in the NT, providing diabetes self-management education in Aboriginal communities and is experienced in integrating technology into diabetes management.

Dr Uchechukwu Levi Osuagwu is a researcher and Senior Lecturer at Bathurst Rural Clinical School, Western Sydney University. He has over 100 publications in peer review journals.

Helen is a registered nurse and has been working as a research nurse since August 2021. She assists in research projects run by WSD. She also took on the role of Virtual Care Support Nurse in August 2022 and assists in diabetes education in case conferencing.

Kara Mikler (CDE/RN) Australian Type 1 Diabetes National Screening Pilot and FDR Master of Philosophy, Charles Perkins Centre (CPC) at The University of Sydney & Dept of Endocrinology, SCHN (Randwick) Kara has specialised in paediatric nursing for 23 years, qualifying as a CDE in 2015. She has highly specialised paediatric diabetes education and management experience in the clinical and research spheres. Kara is part of the Australian National Type 1 Diabetes National Screening Pilot, a world-first initiative by Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) to screen for type 1 diabetes in the general population, operating out of the Charles Perkins Centre at The University of Sydney. Kara is also undertaking a Master of Philosophy drawing on her rich clinical and research experience to develop materials to support children and adolescents with early-stage T1D, their families, and paediatric diabetes healthcare professionals, that align with international guidelines and stakeholder needs.
