Ronald Ma is a clinician-scientist and a specialist in Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes. He completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge, UK and trained in Internal Medicine in London, followed by endocrinology fellowship training in Hong Kong. He then pursued a research fellowship in diabetic complications at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.
Dr Ma’s research focuses on the epidemiology and genetics of diabetes and its complications, gestational diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, and the developmental origins of diabetes. He is currently leading a multi-disciplinary project team to leverage on the Hong Kong Diabetes Register and accompanying biobank to identify novel molecular markers for diabetic complications, and is the principal investigator of the Hong Kong Diabetes Biobank. He has also initiated several mother-offspring cohorts to examine the long-term effects of gestational diabetes and PCOS, and multi-omic studies to identify novel biomarkers. He is also leading local initiatives to enhance local biobanking capacity in Hong Kong and related research. He has published over 450 research articles in international peer-reviewed journals (>35,000 citations, H-index 79). He received the Croucher Senior Medical Research Fellowship (2020) to further his research on Precision Medicine in Diabetes, and the Xiaoren Pan Distinguished Research Award for Epidemiology of Diabetes in Asia from the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes (AASD).
Dr Ma plays an active role in diabetes advocacy. He is a Past President of the International Diabetes Epidemiology Group, a Past President of Diabetes Hongkong, and member of the Executive Board, the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes (AASD). He has served as a Commissioner on the Lancet Commission on Diabetes, the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) Pregnancy and NCD Committee, as well as council member of IADPSG. He has served as consultant for the WHO on childhood obesity, the International Diabetes Federation, as well as FIGO on NCD prevention. He serves on the Steering Committee for Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases for the Hong Kong Health Bureau. He led the workgroup on Type 1 Diabetes in Adults for the IDF Diabetes Atlas, and for biomarkers for diabetes complications in an international initiative on Precision Medicine in Diabetes. He currently serves as editorial board member of PLoS Medicine, Diabetologia, Diabetes, Obesity Reviews, Journal of Diabetes Investigation and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Matt is a clinician-researcher whose focus is working in partnership to understand and address the epidemic of diabetes and related conditions among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. He is a Staff Specialist and Clinical Lead for Remote Services within the Endocrinology Department at Royal Darwin Hospital, and Deputy Lead of the Wellbeing and Chronic Preventable Conditions Division at Menzies School of Health Research. Matt has particular interests and expertise in epidemiology and data-linkage research, but also leads a growing body of clinical and translational projects. In the last five years, his research and collaborations have attracted over $18M in competitive funding. He currently serves as President of the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society and co-led development of the 2025 ADIPS Consensus Recommendations for the screening and diagnosis of gestational diabetes. He is a member of the NT Diabetes Network, the International Diabetes Epidemiology Group, and the Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) Research Advisory Committee. His work has been recognised through several awards including the 2024 ADS Skip Martin Fellowship and a 2025 NHMRC Investigator Grant.

Associate Professor Susan de Jersey is an Advanced Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Credentialled Diabetes Educator at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Manager within the Prevention Strategy Branch within the Queensland Department of Health.
Susan leads a program of research in the Centre for Health Services Research at the University of Queensland. She has over 2 decades of professional experience across the healthcare continuum including regional, rural and remote areas of Queensland and the UK.
Susan and the teams she works with focus on ensuring women have access to wholistic care that supports their current and future health during the reproductive years.
Susan holds several leadership roles on state and national committees and is currently the Vice President and Board Director for the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society.

Dr Elizabeth Holmes-Truscott (PhD, health psychology) is a Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes (a partnership for better health between Diabetes Victoria and Deakin University). Elizabeth leads a varied program of applied research examining psychosocial aspects of diabetes. Her work currently focuses on: a) understanding and addressing diabetes stigma; b) understanding and reducing barriers to optimal health and self-care behaviours , and; c) the promotion of person-reported outcome assessment tools alongside biomedical markers. Elizabeth is Behavioural Platform lead for the Australian Centre for Accelerating Diabetes Innovations (ACADI; 2022-2025), co-lead of the international consensus on ending diabetes stigma and discrimination, and coordinates the Diabetes MILES – Australia collaborative. Elizabeth is a journal editor for 'Diabetic Medicine', and an advisory member to The Obesity Collective stigma expert group as well as The diaTribe Foundation (US) dStigmatize Research Group.
