Abstract

Biography

Associate Professor Glynis Ross has been Lead Endocrinologist of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Diabetes and Pregnancy service for 35 years and does outreach work in Central West NSW. Since 2016 she has been a Diabetes Australia Board Director. Glynis was on ADS Council from 2012-2020 (President 2018-2020) and on ADIPS Council for 2 x 8 year terms (President 2008-2010). Since 2013 she has been NDSS Diabetes in Pregnancy Expert Reference Group Chair and from 2004 national Diabetes Expert Advisory Group member. Glynis is involved in many State and National diabetes working parties including the National Diabetes Strategy Refresh.

Improving pregnancy outcomes in women with GDM: Current & Future Directions

Biography

Dr Sweeting is the Maternal Metabolic Health Lead in Endocrinology, Central Clinical School, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. She is the Immediate Past-President and Chair of the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADIPS) and current Board member. Internationally, Dr Sweeting is the current ADIPS representative for the International Association of the Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) and Chair of the GDM Precision Diagnosis working group for the ADA/EASD Precision Diabetes Initiative. She recently completed her NHMRC and ADS Skip Martin early career fellowships following completion of her NHMRC supported PhD in GDM risk management in 2018. Dr Sweeting's primary research interest is in diabetes in pregnancy with a focus on precision medicine diagnostics and risk stratification to improve pregnancy outcomes for women and their offspring.

Abstract

Biography

Louise Maple-Brown is Deputy Director Research at Menzies School of Health Research and a Senior Endocrinologist at Royal Darwin Hospital (Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia). Louise is the senior diabetes researcher at Menzies, having established and led for eleven years (until 2023), the Diabetes across the Lifecourse: Northern Australian Partnership. The partnership includes several large NHMRC-funded projects, including the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland Diabetes in Pregnancy Partnership and The PANDORA (Pregnancy And Neonatal Diabetes Outcomes in Remote Australia) Cohort Study and most recently the Northern Australia Youth Diabetes collaboration across Western Australia, Northern Territory and Far North Queensland. After completing the majority of her physician and endocrinology training at St Vincents Hospital Sydney, Louise moved to Darwin in 2002 to pursue her passion for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve health outcomes. Louise founded and was inaugural Chair of the NT Diabetes Clinical Network. She was a member of the Australian Diabetes Society Council (2014-2022) and Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society Council (2012-2014). Louise has been providing clinical diabetes services to urban and remote NT communities for over 20 years.
