Abstract

Biography

Emotional and mental health is just as important as physical health for any individual. Navigating day to day life in the context of diabetes can bring on a range of emotions which can impact an individual’s outlook on life. Recognising these emotions and being aware of one’s mental health is the first step in seeking help and being better prepared to deal with these emotions. This plenary lecture will focus on the topic of mental health in people living with diabetes. Join us on Wednesday 23rd of August 2023 at 11AM AEST for Dr Mark Heyman’s plenary lecture entitled ‘Diabetes and Mental Health – who should care about people with diabetes’ mental health’. Dr Mark Heyman is the founder and director of the Centre for Diabetes and Mental Health (CDMH). He is a diabetes psychologist, certified diabetes educator and a person living with Type 1 diabetes. Mark is committed to tackling behavioural and emotional challenges of living with diabetes by providing education and evidence-based clinical treatment to people with diabetes, cutting edge training to health care providers and innovative program development and strategic consulting services to the diabetes business community.
