Biography

Associate Prof Michael d'Emden is the former Director of the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital. He has led an active clinical trials unit which has undertaken over 100 clinical trials including ASPEN, TNT, FIELD, DIRECT, SURPASS-2, EMPA-REG, PIONEER PLUS and the on-going SURPASS_CVD trial. He has served on the management committee of several of these studies. He was a Director of Diabetes Australia and Vice-President of the Australian Diabetes Society in 2012-14.

Professor Steve Stranks is a clinical endocrinologist and researcher based at Flinders Medical Centre where he was Director of Southern Adelaide Diabetes and Endocrine Services from 2007-21. He is the immediate past president of the Australian Diabetes Society and still active on ADS sub - committees.

Biography

Professor Jonathan Shaw MD FRCP(UK) FRACP FAAHMS Professor Jonathan Shaw is Deputy Director at Melbourne’s Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. He is also an endocrinologist, Chair of the Diabetes Advisory Group to the AIHW, Council member of the Australian Diabetes Society, and Past-President of the International Diabetes Epidemiology Group. His awards include the IDEG Peter Bennett award (2011), the ADS Jeff Flack Diabetes Data award (2015), and the ADS Kellion Diabetes award (2018). He has authored over 600 peer-reviewed scientific papers, was included in the Thomson Reuters The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds (2014) and the Clarivate list of the world’s most Highly Cited Researchers (2017 and 2018).
