Biography

A/Prof Helen Barrett is Director of Obstetric Medicine at The Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick NSW and a Senior Staff Specialist in Obstetric Medicine and Endocrinology. She is a conjoint Associate Professor at UNSW Medicine and the immediate Past President of the Society of Obstetric Medicine Australia New Zealand. A/Prof Barrett is a clinician-researcher with a research focus in metabolism in complex pregnancy, with > 70 publications.

Biography

Achamma is an APD/AN and CDE based in Townsville, Queensland. She works both in the public and private sector and also with CALD and Indigenous clients/organisations. Her career started as a research assistant in a Diabetes Research Centre and her passion for improving management for people with Diabetes has been ongoing. She is actively involved in various committees of ADEA and Dietitians Australia. Her passion has seen her training community health workers, nurses and other health professionals in diabetes prevention and management through several diabetes related international projects in Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Pacific Islands and in India.

Abstract

Biography

Dr Giuliana Murfet works as a Nurse Practitioner (Diabetes and Bariatrics) at the Tasmanian Health Service and is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney. She has continuously worked as a practising diabetes clinician for the past 3 decades. Her research projects have focused on diabetes models of care in rural areas, including in paediatric, diabetes in pregnancy and obesity management in type 2 diabetes. Her research interests are health workforce capacity building in diabetes care and diabetes health literacy. Her PhD resulted in the Capability Framework for Diabetes Care, a national curriculum for guiding the training of healthcare providers at different levels across the health system. She is a past President of ADEA and a past Board member of Diabetes Australia. Also, she is chair of the Medical Educational and Scientific Advisory Council and co-chair of the Health Professional Advisory Council for Diabetes Australia. Further, she is a member of the ADEA Micro-credentialing and the Living Evidence for Diabetes Consortium Steering Committee and was also named Jan Baldwin National CDE of the Year 2022.
