Biography

Dr Kirstine Bell is a Senior Research Fellow at the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney and is the Principal Research Fellow leading the Australian Type 1 Diabetes National Screening Pilot (JDRF-Australia & JDRF-International, 2020-24), a national feasibility, acceptability and cost-effectiveness program to determine the optimal method for a routine, publicly-funded national screening program for all Australian children. She is co-first author on the 2022 ISPAD Clinical Practice Consensus Guideline: Stages of type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents.

Biography

Dr Virginia Hagger is a registered nurse and credentialed diabetes educator with postgraduate qualifications in education, public health and was awarded her PhD (Psychology) from Deakin University in 2019. Virginia has over 30 years’ experience in care, education and management related to diabetes education. She has 25 peer-reviewed publications related to diabetes self-management and education and psychological wellbeing which are her areas of research interest. Virginia is currently a Senior Lecturer in Nursing and Course Director of the Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education at Deakin University.

Biography

Dr Rebecca Munt is a registered nurse with a PhD that explored the self-management experiences of people living with type 1 diabetes while in hospital. Rebecca is the Principal Investigator for the South Australia Inpatient Diabetes Survey. Rebecca has undertaken numerous research projects in diabetes and disseminated the findings at local, national and international conferences and in peer reviewed publications. Rebecca currently has a joint appointment as a Research Nurse with Central Adelaide Local Health Network and the University of Adelaide. Rebecca provides support and mentoring for nurses to undertake their own projects and supervises Research Higher Degree students.

Biography

Professor Bodil Rasmussen is Chair of Nursing and Director for the Centre for Nursing Research in the Western Health Partnership, Melbourne, Australia. Her research program comprises two arms, empowering people with chronic and multi-morbidity to self-manage by using technologies and implementation of research evidence into practice; numerous projects involved multi-disciplinary and international teams. She is acknowledged as an international leader in diabetes research and education. She holds Adjunct Professorial appointments at the Universities of Copenhagen and Southern Denmark, Denmark.

Biography

Catharine McNamara is a registered nurse and credentialed diabetes educator with a BA, and postgraduate qualifications in education. Catharine has been a CDE for more than 20 years and currently holds a clinical role at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and an academic role at Deakin University as Unit Chair in the Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education.
