Alison is a credentialed diabetes educator based in Dubbo Western NSW with her husband and three children. She is passionate about improving health outcomes for people living with type 2 diabetes in the bush and has experience providing diabetes education and support across a number of communities in Western NSW including multiple Aboriginal Medical services. She is involved with the ACI Diabetes in the community for Aboriginal People project (DiCAPP), and is a clinical Advisory Council member for the Western NSW PHN. She is also a member of the Access to care working group for the NSW diabetes state-wide initiative and the Diabetes Care partnership Workforce Working Group.

My name is Trent Lyon, and I am a proud Yugambeh man from the Wanggeriburra clan (Tamborine area of south-east Queensland); I have been working as an Exercise Physiologist/Credentialed Diabetes Educator working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to providing health to my culture and people, which has developed into my passion. My aim is to give back to community the learnings and ensure there is change in stigma and shame of chronic conditions in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through spreading culturally responsive practice and strength through culture. I am currently working with Diabetes Australia providing diabetes yarns to community groups, allied health practitioners, senior clinicians and in visiting CDE services.

Working with community to prevent and manage type 2 diabetes: an NT perspective

Dr Anna Wood is Head of Department of Endocrinology at Royal Darwin Hospital and a Senior Research Fellow with Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin. She is the Deputy Head of the Diabetes Across the Lifecourse Partnership, where she plays a key role in supporting a large program of research and translational activities that work in partnership with Aboriginal people to break the cycle of type 2 diabetes and related conditions. Dr Wood leads the weight management service in the NT with expertise in cardiometabolic health. Dr Wood is a Director of the Australian Diabetes Society and serves on the steering committees for the National Association of Diabetes Centres and the Obesity Collective.

Shiree Mack is a Arrernte/Alyawarr woman with connections to the West and North East of Alice Springs. Proud Mother of 4, Sister, Aunty and Grandmother to many. Shiree has been working at Menzies School of Health Research for the last 4 and half years with the Diabetes Across the Lifecourse: Northern Australia Partnership, currently involved in the Merne Mwerre Artweye Areye-ke program. Shiree is very passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous people in her Community and beyond, Shiree brings a wealth of understanding and connection to Country and Community, with lived experience of chronic diseases and a passion for culturally appropriate care. Shiree is also a member of the Diabetes Across the Lifecourse's Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Advisory Group.
