Abstract

Biography

Michael is a Senior Research Fellow and Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow at the School of Population Health, UNSW. He is Deputy Director of Research, School of Population Health, where he co-leads the in the Medicines Intelligence Research Program. He leads NHMRC and Heart Foundation funded research programs applying advanced pharmacoepidemiological methods to population-level linkages of PBS, hospital and Medicare data, to identify evidence-practice gaps in and outcomes of cardiometabolic medicine use.

Biography

Dr Aveni Haynes BA (Hons), MBBChir, PhD Doctor Aveni Haynes is a Senior Research Fellow based at the Telethon Kids Institute in Perth where she leads the epidemiology research theme in the Children’s Diabetes Centre. She is an Investigator and the Epidemiology/Toxicology theme leader in the Australia-wide Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) pregnancy early-childhood type 1 at risk cohort study (www.endia.org.au), in which she also leads a sub-study to identify early changes in glucose levels using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). Additional active leadership roles include being a scientific steering committee member of the Western Australian ORIGINs pregnancy birth cohort study, member of the ANZSPED/AIHW diabetes registry committee, Australasian Type 1 Diabetes Immunotherapy Trials Collaborative (ATIC) and an investigator in the 2021-2025 JDRF Global Centre of Excellence based in Perth focussed on improving lives of individuals living with type 1 diabetes.

The epidemiology of young-onset type 2 diabetes and its complications: a new public health challenge

Abstract

Biography

Professor Dianna Magliano has a BAppSci (Hons), PhD and MPH. Dianna has worked for over 17 years in epidemiology in diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity research as the epidemiologist of the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study. Her more recent work involves exploring trends in diabetes incidence and mortality across the globe and data linkage of Australian datasets. She has a strong international reputation evidenced by her role as an editor for Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice and her position as co-chair of the Diabetes Atlas for the International Diabetes Federation. She is currently supported by a NHMRC Investigator grant. She has been awarded the Australian Jeff flack Diabetes data award and in 2021, she was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her work in epidemiology, teaching and gender equity

Dr Uyen Pham is a consultant endocrinologist who is interested in all aspects of diabetes and endocrinology. She is currently undertaking her PhD studies with Professor Forbes at Mater Research Institute - University of Queensland, pursuing her research interest in the field of diabetic kidney disease.
