Biography

Lauren is a dedicated professional with a passion for health promotion, improving lives, community engagement & advocacy for all people living with diabetes. As the Health Promotion & Communications Manager at PDC Health Hub, she develops impactful communications, programs and services for the diabetes (and wider) community. Having been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 28, and growing up with a mother with T1D, Lauren brings her lived experience and deep understanding of the condition to her work each day. She is an active member of the T1D Collective, a peer support and advocacy group. She also leads an advocacy committee and is an active member of steering groups working tirelessly to bring awareness and positive change to the world of diabetes.

Biography

Following a 35 year career in Corporate Service Management, Tim re-invented himself in the health sector in 2003. Tim is a former advisor to two federal Health Ministers, as a member of the Lead Clinicians Group; an inaugural member of the Physiotherapy Board of Australia; and a former member of the Western Australian Clinical Senate Executive. He has been a Councillor of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiology Faculty of Clinical Radiology (2014-2016); is a Patient for Patient Safety Champion for the World Health Organisation, Chairman of the North Metropolitan Health Service Community Advisory Council (WA), member of Diabetes Australia’s Medical, Education and Scientific Advisory Council, and member of Department of Health (WA) Diabetes & Endocrinology Network Executive Advisory Group.

Biography

Dr Elizabeth Holmes-Truscott is a Senior Research Fellow at The Australian Centre for Behavioural Research in Diabetes. Her applied program of research focuses on understanding and addressing diabetes stigma; reducing barriers to optimal self-care, and the promotion of person-reported outcome assessment alongside biomedical markers. Elizabeth was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in 2019 which spurred her research interest in the experiences of women with gestational diabetes and at risk of type 2 diabetes.

Climbing the professional ladder for diabetes advocacy

Biography

Dr Ashley Ng is a diabetes advocate, a diabetes researcher and accredited practising dietitian. Her lived experience has led to her passion in consumer and community involvement in research and healthcare improvement. Ashley's areas of interest in research include supporting young adults with diabetes during life transitions, digital health solutions in diabetes care and community engagement, including peer support.
