Abstract

Biography

David’s has been running his Bionic Wookiee website since 2017, and regularly writes about diabetes technology from the perspective of living with it. He is a walking and talking example of some of the benefits of technology for diabetes. Having lived with T1 diabetes for over 4 decades, he is now in his 3rd year of not having to even announce or bolus for meals. Having had careers spanning photography and various IT roles, David now works in diabetes research, collaborating with research groups including the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute in Melbourne.

Where does DM2 Meet Technology ?

Biography

Following a 35 year career in Corporate Service Management, Tim re-invented himself in the health sector in 2003. Tim is a former advisor to two federal Health Ministers, as a member of the Lead Clinicians Group; an inaugural member of the Physiotherapy Board of Australia; and a former member of the Western Australian Clinical Senate Executive. He has been a Councillor of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Radiology Faculty of Clinical Radiology (2014-2016); is a Patient for Patient Safety Champion for the World Health Organisation, Chairman of the North Metropolitan Health Service Community Advisory Council (WA), member of Diabetes Australia’s Medical, Education and Scientific Advisory Council, and member of Department of Health (WA) Diabetes & Endocrinology Network Executive Advisory Group.

The Role of the Diabetes Educator when using Diabetes related Technology

Biography

Cheryl is a Registered Nurse with post graduate qualifications in Midwifery, Health Counselling and Diabetes Education. She is the manager of Diabetes Education Services at Western Health. Her primary interests in diabetes education are insulin pumps, Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems and Diabetes in Pregnancy. Cheryl has co-authored papers in peer reviewed journals on Type 1 diabetes and Gestational Diabetes. As well as her clinical role Cheryl has a strong focus on Health Professional education for nurses, allied health, medical practitioners and students. Cheryl is a member of the clinical advisory committee for Diabetes Victoria. Cheryl lives with Type 1 diabetes which she manages with a the Ypsopump and CAM APS FX after swapping from her DIY loop system.
