Details

A lesson learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic for sustainability is to build a resilient community to ensure continuity of international education. Strong partnerships among HE institutions across countries, regions, and stakeholders from different private and public sector industries bring about more inclusive and impactful pedagogies for traditional and non-traditional learners. In this panel, speakers from different areas with different key positions share their views and actions implemented during the pandemic to illustrate this point in argument. Sajjad Pourmid, Don Bysouth, and Rob Kuipers from Kansai University discuss an initiative in the Institute for Innovative Global Education called the Japan Multilateral COIL Project as a new COIL model that is jointly owned and implemented by Japan Virtual Campus and multiple universities worldwide. Erwin M. Faller from San Pedro College, Philippines portrays an overview of their virtual exchange initiative, The Global Classroom, embedded in the academic ecosystem since 2020 to strengthen cross-institutional collaborations. Lastly, Chelsey Laird from UMAP (University Mobility in Asia and Pacific) international secretariat discusses a consortium approach to collaborate cross-institutionally to bring new international programs to various student populations beyond border limits. All three cases share a cross-institutional approach with a de-centralized mindset to further strengthen international education endeavours. Learning Objectives: The audience will learn about ● how the cross-institutionally operated J-MCP program has contributed to sustainability and inclusivity in international education through redefining the scope and ownership of COIL programs. ● how the Global Classroom initiative has strengthened cross-institutional ties in higher education in the Philippines. ● how UMAP’s consortium approach to cross-institutional collaborations has made it possible for different student populations to gain international exposure while redefining the national border constraints. Target Audience: Those who are decision makers in establishing international university partnerships, such as SIOs, heads of department, supporting IROs in various liaison divisions in HEI, general faculty members. Target Audience Level: Intermediate. Advanced
