International partnership is commonly viewed as an important strategy in higher education, where it can open possibilities for research collaboration, exchange of students and staff, as well as the establishment of joint programs. The potential benefit from such collaborative activities is well-recognized. However, developing new international partnership may be a difficult problem for institutions that are new to internationalization. Maintaining an active partnership is another challenging task that requires sustained interest and resources from the collaborating parties. This presentation identifies the major obstacles in developing and maintaining active partnership in higher education. Furthermore, possible strategies to address this task is discussed, which involves a form of a university-wide synergy to have an effective impact on internationalization in general.

Dr. Irfansyah joined ITS Global Engagement in 2020 as Senior Manager for International Partnership, where he previously chaired and co-chaired international conferences co-sponsored by IEEE hosted by ITS in 2018 and 2019. He is a faculty member at the Department of Electrical Engineering ITS, supervising students and undertaking research in the area of microelectronics and robotics.

Nastiti Primadyastuti joined ITS Global Engagement since 2018. She holds a masters degree in English Education from Malang State University, and has been in charge of international agreements at ITS. She currently serves as an international partnership analyst working with the World Class University Team.
