Details

Queen’s, Fudan and Universitas Indonesia have each made great strides advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Queen’s ranked in the top 10 in the last two THE Impact Rankings, while in 2022 UI placed #18, and Fudan entered at #27. However, we recognize that only through collaboration, equitable partnership and innovation will the SDGs be achieved on a global scale. We will present our own approaches towards advancing the SDGs, outlining our challenges and successes. We will then discuss how the SDGs provide a common language for global partners to address problems that we each face in our own local communities. We will explore how universities can share their distinct strengths, experiences and knowledges on the SDGs to gain a global perspective on social and environmental problems and collaborate to develop and implement innovative solutions locally. We will seek to answer: 1. How might the SDGs provide a framework for the fostering of equitable global partnerships? 2. How can global partnerships enhance the development of sustainable solutions to local problems? 3. What are some of the challenges of the SDG framework for equitable partnerships and how can they be addressed? 4. What are the benefits and challenges created by the THE Impact Rankings for encouraging collaboration, equitable partnership and innovation? Learning Objectives: • Learn how the SDGs can be implemented within the university context, and how they can be applied to a global engagement strategy. • Harnessing the SDGs as a “common language” for fostering equitable partnerships, applying the concept of “thinking globally, acting locally.” • Understanding the value and the challenges of using the THE Impact Rankings as a guide for developing productive and mutually beneficial partnerships. Target Audience: Audience: Sustainability offices; Global engagement; Student exchange; Student support Area of interest: SDGs, Global engagement Target Audience Level: Intermediate
