Details

Studying abroad has been associated with improving students’ employability and enhancing their career prospects. Is study abroad really impactful on students professional development or do we just (wish to) believe that? If we assume the first, how do we measure impact? Universities around the world encourage learning mobility programmes as they understand the positive impact on their students. But is it possible to measure this impact and if yes, how? Conceptualising students’ learning curves after mobility and helping students to demonstrate the added value to others is key. This session will look at different initiatives from Canada, Europe and Australia that aim to measure employability outcomes of learning mobility programmes. We share the findings of a recent AIEA study from Australia exploring how international study opportunities connect to skills development and career outcomes of graduates who have undertaken learning abroad. We bring in the findings of a Erasmus+ funded European project that provides a set of innovative tools to help students maximise and articulate their study abroad experience. Moreover, we look at a CiCan funded Canadian pilot project of digitally supporting the development of employability skills by focusing on a digital tool measuring employability outcomes and testing students’ intercultural understanding. Learning Objectives: - Participants will get a better insight in current international study & project results on measuring the employability impact of learning mobility programmes. - Participants will be able to see the different perceived impacts between short- & long-term mobility programmes, sharing best practices form Australia, Europe and Canada. - Participants will get information about different available tools of measuring students’ employability development & map their intercultural learning journey. Target Audience: Recruitment, Student Support, Careers Office, International Office Target Audience Level: Intermediate
