Details

Indonesia has a significant need for education and training services. It has a young and expanding population and is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. Yet Indonesia faces widening skills gaps as it develops critical infrastructure and prepares for future jobs. This has drawn great interest from a number of foreign universities in engaging in transnational education (TNE) partnerships. The new regulatory development such as ‘Campus Merdeka’ also further encourages foreign universities’ investment. Finding the right model and partner are both critical and can be challenging. The affordability of international education should be considered in line with the potentially large scale of student numbers. The establishment process in TNE partnerships can be complex, and the path is uncertain. At this level, the local partner can assist in resolving some issues. This session explores the opportunities and challenges of establishing partnership models. It covers Indonesia’s TNE profile, its regulatory environment, the types of models operating, and what Indonesian institutions and students want from the partnership. The session is based on a research project that examines the demand and supply of TNE services in Indonesia. Learning Objectives: ● Factors influencing transnational education partnerships in Indonesia; ● Indonesia’s landscape for higher education and international partnerships, including the type of existing partnership models and scale; and ● Insights to navigate Indonesia’s foreign education partnerships and the regulatory environment. Target Audience: ● Foreign universities interested in investing in Indonesia ● TNE coordinators at faculties and central portfolios ● International partnership and student recruitment units Target Audience Level: Intermediate
