In the initial wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, international higher education institutes were required to evaluate their delivery. The difficulties of organizing physical mobilities has
prompted a newfound interest by higher education institutions worldwide in the methodologies of Virtual Exchange and Collaborative Online International Learning (VE / COIL).While these modalities of internationalised education had already been in wide usage in Europe and other regions prior to pandemic, its prevalence in ASEAN was much less evident. With the support of SHARE, an EU funded programme, there has been significant development of capacity in this area amongst a network of 32 universities across ASEAN. This session aims at raising awareness of the importance of developing VE/ COIL programs for internationalisation strategy and towards students' intercultural competence. This presentation reports on (i) the analytic results from the mapping research conducted via survey and interviews on VE/COIL in the region, (ii) the capacity building training workshops in educating practitioners (iii) the VE/COIL programs that were executed within the region and (iv) the VE/COIL AVEC platform developed to support academics in organizing VE/COIL activities.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the sessions, participants will:
• gain insights on the strategic conceptualization and execution of VE/COIL in ASEAN.
• be able to understand the issues pertaining to VE/COIL within the ASEAN region which can be applicable to other regions
• learn the importance of developing VE/COIL with internationalization strategies of HEIs in the post-covid era
