Details

Between the upheavals of the pandemic and new funding schemes available for growing international mobility, international experiences are being offered across many Canadian institutions. Managing the risks related to international experiences is an increasing priority for institutions that want to keep their students safe, secure, and healthy while traveling. Staff turnover is resulting in international mobility programs being run by professionals who are new to the field of international education and might be less familiar with risk management and emergency response. Even seasoned professionals are facing new risks to manage due to the pandemic and global instability. The purpose of this session is to share our knowledge of how international mobility risk management is operationalized in Canadian institutions towards creating more sustainable futures for international education, including opportunity verification, student readiness, and travel planning. During the session, presenters will share their risk management strategies, give tips, and provide advice on how to develop an institutional international mobility risk management culture in which the health, safety and security of student travelers is at the heart of the decision-making process related to supporter international activities. Learning Objectives: • To understand how a robust travel risk management strategy is operationalized with higher education institutions • To be exposed to preventive measures, implemented by Canadian Institutions, to keep their students safe while travelling abroad • To know how to recognize and mitigate risks related to travel, opportunity development, student experience, etc. Target Audience: International Offices, Managers of outbound programs Target Audience Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
