The Impact Rankings are a unique methodology and framework for demonstrating university impact and, since their launch in 2019, have offered a completely different way to view excellence in higher education. THE Impact rankings examine the 17 UN SDGs and evaluate universities performance against all of them across the broad areas of research, stewardship, outreach and teaching. Beginning with an overview of the methodology for the latest 2023 ranking, we will examine the 2023 dataset (published in April 2023), including data from more than 1,500 universities from across the world, look at regional & global trends and provide insights into the work universities are doing in their communities against the SDGs. We will also look at the influence of THE’s Impact Rankings on student recruitment against THE student survey data and look at how sustainability practices influence decision making not only of students, but academics. Learning Objectives: • Attendees will gain a deep understanding of the THE Impact Rankings methodology and framework. • Understand the metric and indicator measures contributing to the Impact Rankings framework, deep diving into four broad areas of research, stewardship, outreach and teaching. • Hear examples of global best practice & emerging trends in higher education sustainability practices. • Understand the role and value of higher education institutions in setting sustainability benchmarks • Gain an appreciation of the work the HE sector is undertaking in communities. Target Audience: • International & global engagement • Strategy, planning & data • Student recruitment • TNE Target Audience Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
