Details

The Higher Education (HE) sector plays a significant role towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and partnerships among institutions are increasingly organised to address certain dimensions of these goals. The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) launched a study to explore the relationship of HE and the SDGs in the 51 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) countries. The study surveyed the 51 Ministries of Education to map national HE policies; and surveyed over 150 universities the ASEM countries to map institutional practices, in partnership with International Association of Universities (IAU). This session showcases the key findings of the above study (expected to be completed in Jan 2023) and gives insights to participants on the following questions: - What strategies and partnerships ASEM universities have in place to promote the SDGs? - What are the most common institutional barriers against the SDGs, and where are the opportunities? - How can Asian and European universities work better together towards the SDGs? Participants will walk away with new ideas on strategies to localise the SDGs, engage with policymakers for better support, and advocating bottom-up actions that are driven by local stakeholders (students, staff, authorities, industry). Learning Objectives: - Strategies and good practices for HEI leaders on interpreting the SDGs according to their local contexts - Practical advice on advocating for bottom-up actions that are driven by local stakeholders (students, staff, authorities, industry) - New ideas on Asia-Europe partnerships working towards the SDGs Target Audience: University leaders, managers in charge of partnerships, sustainable development Target Audience Level: Intermediate
