The Aga Khan University and University of Central Asia are development institutions with the mandate to develop human capacities in the regions they serve (Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, among other countries). A partnership with University of Victoria and other Canadian institutions enables access and participation of students in the global south to education and work integrated learning opportunities in Canada. In this session, participants will learn about • The three institutions (Aga Khan University, University of Central Asia and University of Victoria), • how their mobility programs are structured, • work integrated learning opportunities students engage in the UN SDGs, • funding programs that facilitate these mobility programs, • how these mobility programs have enabled students in the global south who face barriers to mobility to access work integrated learning opportunities in the global north, and • how Canadian students contribute to the UN SDGs through their work integrated learning terms at AKU and UCA. Learning Objectives: • Success factors for strong and meaningful mobility programs • Factors for consideration when developing accessible mobility programs • Funding that can be sourced to facilitate student mobility Target Audience: • Partnership Development Directors/Coordinators/Managers – partnership and collaboration, SDG education and impact • Faculty and sessional instructors – global development studies • Student Support/Advisors – student engagement in SDGs, Work-Integrated Learning Target Audience Level: Intermediate

Karima serves as Associate Director, International, Indigenous and Strategic Initiatives at the University of Victoria's Co-operative Education Programs and Career Services and is a Certified Advanced Cultural Intelligence (CQ) Professional. A skilled work-integrated learning (WIL) professional, she brings her passion for partnership development into her efforts to develop student mobility programs in WIL.

Biography

Myrza Karimov heads the School of Arts and Sciences’ cooperative education program. He previously worked as Program Director of Counterpart International’s Support to the Electoral Process Project (STEP) funded by the USAID Mission in Kabul, Afghanistan. He holds MA degree from the University of Minnesota in Comparative International Development Education
