Details

In 2022, the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) and Asia Society Australia (ASA) established a research partnership to explore ASA’s youth-centred ‘Generation Asia’ strategic pillar. The partnership focuses on mapping the challenges facing youth engagement between Australia and the Asia Pacific in the immediate aftermath of COVID-19 and presenting practical, sustainable and youth-focused solutions. In this partnership, ‘youth’ refers to young people aged between 18 and 35 years. The outputs of this partnership include three research reports which focus on Australia–Asia Pacific youth connectivity throughout COVID-19; Asia literacy and employability in Australian contexts; and championing the diverse talent of Asia Pacific-engaged youth in Australia, including international students and graduates. This session presents an overview of this research partnership as well as its key findings and relevance for sustainable international education across the Asia Pacific region. The panel includes Dr Kirrilee Hughes, Research Lead along with three international education experts - Professor Ren Yi, Rebecca Hall and Jonathan Chew - who were members of the Advisory Group for the IEAA-ASA research partnership. The session will also allow for interactive Q&A from audience members. Learning Objectives: • Attendees will learn about the key findings of this important research partnership, including a number of new data points related to Australia – Asia Pacific youth connectivity (across international education; tourism; business and employment as well as civic engagement) and the ‘Asia literacy’ of Australian young people. • Attendees will learn how this research partnership and its outputs are relevant to their work in developing and delivering sustainable international education practice across the Asia Pacific. • Attendees will hear from members of the Advisory Group which steered this research partnership, who are Asia-Pacific-focused international education experts and practitioners. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in Q&A with these panel members as well as to learn from other audience members. Target Audience: This session has broad appeal to both international education practitioners (in leadership, strategy, program development and program delivery roles) as well as international education researchers and academics who work across the Asia Pacific and who have an active interest in youth engagement. This session will also appeal to those who are based outside of the Asia Pacific (for example, in the Americas, Middle East, UK or Europe) and who have an interest in their regions’ engagement with youth across the Asia Pacific. Target Audience Level: Intermediate. Advanced
