This session will showcase the innovative partnership that the University of Victoria (UVic) and Vancouver Island University (VIU) have established with Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC), an international development organization working in Africa and Asia to tackle the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). These institutions have engaged both their campus and regional communities in supporting the AKFC’s World Partnership Walk – Canada’s largest event in support of international development that raises awareness and funds to fight global poverty.
Attendees will learn about:
• Aga Khan Foundation Canada and the World Partnership Walk – its history and development in Victoria and the larger Vancouver Island community;
• how the partnership is structured at each institution, from the perspective of new partnership (VIU) and a longstanding one (UVic);
• specific deliverables and successes, including: walk fundraising targets and milestones, student and faculty engagement, and community partnerships; and
• future expansion opportunities.
