Biography

Natalie Wischer OAM is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Diabetes Centres (NADC). With extensive experience in clinical and executive roles across acute, aged care, and primary health care settings, she has worked in Centres of Excellence through to remote First Nations communities. Natalie led the development and launch of the Diabetes Service Standards and Accreditation program in 2012 and created the Australasian Diabetes Advancements and Technologies Summit (ADATS) in 2017. She also led the creation and development of health professional resources through the NDSS Foot Forward program. As a committed advocate for excellence in diabetes care, she frequently presents at national and international conferences.

Biography

Prof. Sophia Zoungas, MBBS, FRACP, PhD, is the head of Monash University's School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and leads the School's Diabetes Research Program. She is an endocrinologist with clinical appointments at both Alfred Health and Monash Health, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She leads clinical and health services research groups and collaborates extensively both locally and internationally in the specialty area of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and health aging. Sophia has over 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Biography

Dr Konrad Kangru gained his MBBS from University of Queensland in 2000, has been in private Rural General Practice in the Whitsundays region of Queensland since 2005, where he has been a GP Supervisor and Medical Educator since 2009. He has remained a very active advocate for improving the support of rural doctors, currently as Co-Chair of the Statewide Rural and Remote Clinical Network, and also having served as President and prior Conference Convenor of the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland. Dr Kangru has also undertaken and presented his research on the Self-Care of rural doctors, and has special interests in Medical Education and Diabetes management, particularly in up-skilling colleagues about this important condition.

Elaine Pretorius

PREMS and PROMS in diabetes care. The how, when, why and what

Biography

Dr Pretorius is the Executive Director of Medical Services for the Limestone Coast Local Health Network, South Australia. She has been a member of the National Australian Diabetes Centres Steering Committee since inception and the Chair of the NADC Accreditation Committee. She is a member of the NADC Foot Network Executive Committee and participated in the development of national standards for accreditation of foot services. She trained in South Africa as an Endocrinologist and General Physician and came to Australia in 2004 to join the Endocrinology team at Flinders Medical Centre. Dr Pretorius was the Head of Unit for the Diabetes and Endocrine Services and subsequently the Divisional Director for Medicine in the Northern Adelaide Local Network. She was based in NALHN from 2006-2019. She counts clinical governance, quality improvement and change management as special areas of interest. Dr Pretorius has completed a Master’s Degree in Health Care Management and completed a Fellowship in Medical Administration in 2018. Dr Pretorius is a passionate cat lover, politics tragic and enjoys embroidery and theatre-going in her spare time.

Biography

Dr Jasmine Zhu is a clinical endocrinologist with affiliations at Austin Health, Mercy Health and the University of Melbourne. She has previously collaborated with the ADS and NADC to survey the views of health professionals on the safe prescribing and administration of insulin in hospitals.

Prof Christopher Nolan

Biography

Professor Christopher (Chris) Nolan is a clinician-scientist working in the field of diabetes, including diabetes in pregnancy. He is the Professor of Endocrinology at the School of Medicine and Psychology, Australian National University (ANU) and a Senior Staff Specialist in Diabetes and Endocrinology at The Canberra Hospital. He is currently a Board Member of the Australian Diabetes Society, Co-Chair of the Diabetes Australia Research Program Advisory Panel, Chair of the National Association of Diabetes Centres Steering Committee, and a recent Advisory Board Member for Diabetologia. His diabetes-related research activities traverse basic science, clinical science and public health.

Biography

Wah Cheung is the Director of Diabetes & Endocrinology at Westmead Hospital. He is a former President of the ADS and Chairperson of the NADC, and a current co-Chair the the NSW Endocrine Network. His research interests are in Inpatient Glucose Management, and DIabetes in Pregnancy.
