Biography

Dr Virginia Hagger is a senior lecturer and the course director for the Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education at Deakin University. She is a registered nurse and credentialled diabetes educator, with extensive experience in clinical care, education and research related to living with diabetes and health professional education. Virginia has postgraduate qualifications in public health, education and PhD (Psychology). Her research interests include structured self-management education, diabetes distress and psychological wellbeing, and diabetes education workforce development.

Biography

Catharine has many years experience as a DE. Her clinical role is at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute supporting people to self-manage their diabetes. Her teaching role is in the Graduate Certificate of Diabetes Education at Deakin University. Both roles require skills to mentor and nurture novice educators.

ADEA Masterclass: Utilising the Diabetes Education Competency Assessment Tool in Clinical Practice

Biography

Dr Giuliana Murfet, an experienced diabetes and metabolic bariatrics nurse practitioner, is an ADEA Fellow and past ADEA President, an inaugural Bullwinkel Scholar and was named Jan Baldwin CDE of the Year in 2022. She actively advises the NDSS and Diabetes Australia as chair of the Health Professional and Medical Educational and Scientific Advisory Councils and is a member of the Living Evidence for Diabetes Consortium. As a casual academic and Visiting Scholar at the University of Technology Sydney’s School of Public Health, her research focuses on diabetes workforce development, nurse-led care models, and health literacy. Giuliana authored the Capability Framework for Diabetes Care and is dedicated to innovative solutions in healthcare.
