Biography

Laurel Messer (Ph.D., MPH, RN, CDCES) is the Senior Director of Medical Affairs at Tandem Diabetes Care, leading clinical strategy and global evidence generation. Dr. Messer is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, University of Colorado School of Medicine. She has specialized in the care of youth and young adults with Type 1 Diabetes for 18 years as a clinical scientist, nurse, and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. In her academic role, she has served as a research investigator and clinical educator for diabetes technology trials including CGM, insulin pumps, and automated insulin delivery systems. Dr. Messer has authored over 80 publications related to diabetes, and lectures/teaches on diabetes technology at universities, hospitals, and national and international conferences. Dr. Messer also founded the PANTHERProgram (http://PANTHERprogram.org, “Diabetes Technology. Deciphered”) , a website for persons with diabetes and healthcare professionals who want to engage with diabetes technology.

Biography

Tracey Stamates-Roerty, RD, LD, CDCES has worked in the nutrition and diabetes field for over 25 years as a registered dietitian, as well as a certified diabetes care and education specialist. Tracey has been working at Tandem Diabetes Care since 2014 and has helped to launch all of the products that Tandem Diabetes has distributed in the United States. During her time at Tandem, she has evolved from a direct patient care trainer to managing the clinical staff of 6 states in the United States. In 2021, Tracey joined the International Team for Tandem to provide clinical support to the expanding international markets. She currently serves as the Senior Manager of International Clinical Support and has a passion for understanding the intricacies of the Control-IQ technology algorithm and improving patient outcomes by using the data provided through software platforms to optimize the use of the system.

Samantha Oxenham is the National Clinical Education Manager for AMSL Diabetes, a Dexcom company. Sam is a credentialled diabetes educator and an accredited practising dietitian, with a background in acute care, community health, government, industry, and private practice. Sam’s passion in diabetes technology stems from having lived with type 1 diabetes for over 38 years. Sam joined AMSL in 2010, and leads a national team who continually aim to inspire, inform, and empower people to positively impact a life with diabetes.
