Jenny Couper is a paediatric endocrinologist and head of paediatrics, University of Adelaide. She has lead the Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) nation-wide consortium since 2012. Over 10 years this consortium has reached full recruitment of 1500 babies. She is a steering member of two related initiatives in the prevention of type 1 diabetes space: the JDRFA Australian Population Screening program pilot for type 1 diabetes and the JDRFA Australasian Immune trials Collaborative. She was elected a member of the International Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) Advisory Council in 2020.

Dr Kirstine Bell is a dietitian, diabetes educator and Principal Research Fellow at the University of Sydney, Australia. She currently leads the Australian Type 1 Diabetes National Screening Pilot and co-leads the Type 1 Diabetes Research node at the Charles Perkins Centre. She has authored a number of national and international clinical guidelines and was named the ADS Lindsay Baudinet Rising Star in Diabetes and the JDRF International Dr Robert Goldstein Early-Career Research award.

Dr Aveni Haynes is a Senior Research Fellow based at Telethon Kids Institute in Western Australia, where she leads the epidemiology and pre-symptomatic type 1 diabetes research theme in the Rio Tinto Children’s Diabetes Centre.
She has a strong research track record, establishing strong national and international collaborations, and demonstrating leadership capacity and roles in the field of childhood type 1 diabetes epidemiology, aetiology, and prevention research. Dr Haynes is also an Investigator in the Australia-wide Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) pregnancy early-childhood type 1 at risk cohort study in which she also leads a sub-study to identify early changes in glucose levels using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), the Australian Type 1 Diabetes Immunotherapy Collaborative (ATIC) and Type 1 National Screening Pilot Program.
Her research interests include the aetiology and pathophysiology of childhood diabetes, with a focus on early life determinants and the developmental origins of health and disease. Her current research focus is on informing type 1 diabetes prevention strategies by investigating early dysglycaemia in children at risk.

Kara has specialised in paediatric nursing for 23 years, qualifying as a CDE in 2015. She has highly specialised paediatric diabetes education and management experience in the clinical and research spheres. Kara is part of the Australian National Type 1 Diabetes National Screening Pilot, a world-first JDRF initiative to screen for type 1 diabetes in the general population, operating out of University of Sydney. Kara is keen to use her expertise to develop materials to support children and adolescents with early-stage T1D, their families, and paediatric diabetes healthcare professionals, that align with international guidelines and stakeholder needs.
