Jeff Birchall is an Associate Professor of Local-scale Climate Change Adaptation/ Resilience, in the School of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Alberta, where he serves as Director of the Climate Adaptation and Resilience Lab. Jeff is a registered professional planner.
Presenters:
Nicole Bonnett is a PhD candidate, Dept of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Alberta; her research explores local-scale climate impacts and adaptations, with a focus on policy/ action implementation.
Desiree Rose is a PhD candidate, School of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Alberta. Her research explores how climate change influences health outcomes in Canadian cities, with specific focus on the role of adaptation and planning to support community resilience. She is a registered nurse, with experience in urban trauma medicine.
Sarah Kehler is a PhD candidate, Dept. of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Alberta; her research focuses on barriers to achieving equitable and effective policy for adaptation and resilience to climate change.
Nina Rogers is a social researcher with the Climate Futures Research Group, University of Tasmania, Australia. Nina is an experienced climate policy professional with a keen interest in climate adaptation governance at the sub-national level.
Mahed Choudhury is a postdoctoral research associate (Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary, Canada). His research focuses on community resilience, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation.

Paul Watkiss is director of a small climate research consultancy in the UK. He has over 25 years of experience on the policy, economics and financing of climate adaptation. He is the lead author on the UNEP Adaptation Finance Gap report and has extensive expertise in the costs and benefits of adaptation and investment planning.
Jon Barnett is Australian Research Council Laureate Professor in the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Melbourne University. He is a political geographer whose research investigates social impacts and responses to environmental change.
Russell Wise has 20 years’ experience leading applied R&D programmes in Australia and South Africa. His work has focused on understanding the social-ecological and political-economy dimensions of climate adaptation; enhancing sense- and decision-making approaches to better consider uncertainty and ambiguity in knowledge; and exploring innovative ways to increase investment into climate resilient development.
Blanche Butera is a climate change adaptation specialist at PWA where she applies her expertise in designing and undertaking multidisciplinary research and policy analysis on relevant aspects of climate change adaptation. Blanche is a project coordinator for a CLARE funded project, called ECONOGENESIS and a lead author for a number of UNEP Adaptation Gap reports - finance chapter.
