Ministry of Primary Industries Animal Health: Mitigation Outcomes from Adaptation Needs

1:45 PM - 3:15 PM

Abstract

Short Description

The Animal Health masterclass will be opened by Dr Mary van Andel, Chief Veterinary Officer for the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries.

Dr van Andel will provide an introduction on the global trends for animal health and the impact of climate change. The need to adapt is undisputed but there are opportunities to respond with low-emissions options.

Sam Harbug and Matt Newman from AbacusBio will present preliminary findings from the New Zealand case study as part of a global project in partnership with the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases, the Environmental Defense Fund and the Global Methane Hub.

Dr Suzi Keeling will share the sector’s perspective on addressing climate change impacts on animal health, explore the opportunities for farmers through co-benefits, and underscore the importance of an integrated approach to climate resilience—where animal health is a core component of farm systems and productivity
