Dr Nooshin Torabi is an interdisciplinary social scientist at RMIT, specialising in adaptive governance, climate change responses, sustainability communication, and energy justice. She researches climate change education in universities and sustainable consumption to end food waste. With extensive teaching experience in climate change responses, she brings a strong commitment to impactful, interdisciplinary learning.

The weaving of values-based approaches for inclusive and just climate action: The Preserving Legacies Project

Sarah (Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Raukawa) is the Education and Knowledge director of the Preserving Legacies project which supports community-based adaptation to protect their significant places, practices and landscapes. As a heritage specialist she has also consulted on climate related heritage projects including working closely with ICOMOS, IUCN, UNESCO and ICCROM.
Salma is an interdisciplinary researcher, engineer, and climate activist dedicated to supporting community-led heritage adaptation. As Director of Science for PL she bridges diverse knowledge systems, advances climate data accessibility, and strengthens risk assessment and adaptation strategies. She has collaborated with the IPCC, UNESCO, and ICOMOS to support global climate-heritage action.

James has a 20-year career in the infrastructure and environmental sectors. He has been involved in a wide range of important projects over recent years, including the first National Climate Risk Assessment, MfE’s Climate Adaptation Technical Working Group, the development of the Health Sector Climate Scenarios, and a variety of climate risk and adaptation projects across NZ.

Arts-based and participatory approaches for mobility perspectives in inclusive pathways for climate adaptation

Dr. Gilmore leads the “Transforming places for the precariously housed: Equitable adaptation pathways for climate mobilities” project with a team of university-based researchers, practitioners, and community partners. This effort focuses on climate (im)mobilities and urban planning, using arts-based approaches to elevate community priorities in adaptation pathways.

Dr Leonardo Nogueira de Moraes is a Research Fellow in Disaster Resilience at RMIT’s Centre for Urban Research. His contribution to the NHRA-funded project on Natural Hazards and Resilience in Complex Urban Systems is focused on “assessing and mapping vulnerabilities and resilience within urban systems at local scales”.

Janet is a research professor and social scientist. Recent adaptation research includes working with Māori communities and councils that are leading innovative responses to climate change challenges, and working with rural Māori communities who are developing their own plans for climate adaptation.
